Tasting: Franciscan has beautiful grounds and a large, open tasting room that's friendly and easily accessible. The winery is a little commercialized for my tastes, but my tasting experience was still positive. Franciscan offers 2 tasting options, a "Classic" that features Napa Valley wines and a "Limited" that features wines only available at the winery and some special reserve wines. As of this post, both are $15...so I'm not sure why you wouldn't always taste the better wines in the Limited tasting! When I was there a number of years ago, the limited tasting featured their Cuvée Sauvage (Napa Valley's first wild-yeast fermented Chardonnay), their red meritage blend Magnificat (quite good), as well as some wines from Mount Veeder Winery (nice cabs).
Recommended wine: The Cuvée Sauvage was good, but overpriced. I enjoyed the Magnificat, but I can typically find this at Binny's in Chicago. The Mt. Veeder Cabs have at times been very good, but it depends on the year.
